There are two main causes for Lower Urinary Track Symptoms (LUTS):

The first and major one is Bladder Outlet Obstruction (BOO) as a result of a Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH).

The second, less common, is Bladder Dysfunction.

BPH is a chronic medical condition
Enlarged prostate due to Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (on the right), which leads to a blockage of the urethra and urination disorders.
The burden of BPH is carried by a significant percentage of the aging male population. It results in urine disruption phenomena such as nucturia (high frequency of urination during the night), decreased force of urinary stream, slow urinary flow, intermittency, dribbling and hesitancy.

Thinking on BPH has undergone transformation from its earlier perception as an acute condition treatable and “curable” only through surgery, to its acceptance as a chronic condition treatable with ongoing medication and medical care. The result is a considerable improvement in the quality of life of the patient, allowing him more peaceful sleep, mobility, leisure, daily activities, sexual activities and relief from concern and worry about his disease.
